Constitution

The choir is established to educate children in choral music and to further the development of public appreciation and taste in choral music.

Objective

To have fun making music together and to explore as many musical genres as possible whilst always striving to achieve the highest possible standard of singing.

Accompanists during the first 25 years have been talented teenagers. This has given them valuable experience with some former accompanists now working as professional accompanists.

Repertoire has always included much modern music in a variety of styles by living composers. Our Patron Liz Johnson was introduced to us through the Making Music Adopt a Composer Scheme. She wrote Moon Incantations especially for us and we have also performed a number of her other songs. Our Patron Alexander L’Estrange has written many effective arrangements ideally suited to young voices which regularly feature in our programmes. BYS has performed Zimbe and Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose in major concerts.

Peer Mentoring

There is a family feel to Bournville Young Singers where the more experienced senior singers are encouraged to help the younger ones and take on the responsibility of various leadership roles.
