  • 11th annual residential workshop to Hartington Hall, Derbyshire.
  • 20th Anniversary is celebrated with a Concert in Adrian Boult Hall with BackBeat Percussion Ensemble. A further concert is given in St Francis Church Bournville with former members reuniting with current members to sing favourite repertoire from the 20 years.
  • In recognition of the large contingent of teenagers in the choir, the Choir changes its name to Bournville Young Singers. To celebrate, there is a successful European Concert Tour to the Rhineland in July.

  • 8th annual residential workshop to Ilam Hall Youth Hostel, Derbyshire
  • Adopt a Composer Scheme by Making Music links Bournville Children’s Choir with Liz Johnson, who composes Moon Incantations especially for the choir. This is premiered at St Paul’s Hockley. Liz becomes the new Patron of the choir.
  • Fifth concert tour to Paris, France involving the Chamber Choir.
  • Three groups entered in Peterborough Choral Competition: 3rd Prize for Juniors, 2nd prize for Juniors, but Senior girls just missed out on a prize!

2002

  • The choir are again invited to sing at the Lord Mayor’s Gala Banquet.

  • 7th annual residential workshop to Malvern Hills Youth Hostel with concerts in the Priory and All Saints Church, The Wyche, Malvern.
  • 15th Anniversary celebrated with a Concert of living British Composers in Brimingham’s Symphony Hall. BCC is joined by several other local choirs and Camp Hill Schools Concert Band. Guest Conductor Jonathan Willcocks who composed one of the works, Mayhem!
  • Bournville Children’s Choir are invited to perform at the Birmingham Lord Mayors Gala Banquet
  • Fourth concert tour to Bruges and Ghent, Belgium

  • 6th annual residential workshop to St Briavels Youth Hostel, Gloucestershire
  • Bournville Children’s Choir host a Grand Concert Finale as part of the Bournville Millenium Festival. They are joined by a massed choir of local singers and accompaniment by the Bournville Carillon and a travelling Carillon from Holland.

  • Hosted Chicago Children’s Choir with a combined concert at St Paul’s Hockley in the presence of Ian McArdle, Lord Mayor of Birmingham, who later became Patron of the choir.
  • Third concert tour to Springe, Germany involving the newly formed Bournville Children’s Choir Chamber Choir. Concerts are given in Hanover, Hamlin and Springe with excellent press reviews.

1998

  • A Barbershop style group is formed for the senior boys. Choir membership is now at 60 singers with the age range from 5 to 18. Assistant Directors are appointed to enable increased sectionals with the different groups within Bournville Children’s Choir. Groups now include: Training choir, Juniors, Senior girls and Senior boys.
  • Third Singing Day, with guest choirs and performance of “Ocean World” in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.

  • Ludlow Youth Hostel: the choir’s first residential workshop during February half-term.
  • Second Singing Day in Dudley Town Hall, with Guest Choirs in performances of 2 Cantatas…The Pied Piper by Colin Warnock and King Leo by Cecilia McDowell. Bournville Children’s Choir get a new logo, inspired by The Pied Piper.
  • The choir also reunited with friends from Springe and played host to the St Petrus Kinder und Jugend Chor, performing in a joint concert of Vivaldi’s Gloria with orchestra at St Francis Church Bournville.

  • With singers wanting to stay in the choir post 14, the Chamber Choir is established for this older age group with more challenging SATB repertoire.

  • The choir, with the age range now extended to 14 years, goes on it’s first overseas concert tour to Springe, near Hanover in Germany as guests of the St Petrus Kinder und Jugend Chor, who are celebrating their 5th Anniversary with a special composition.

  • Bournville Childrens Choir is founded by Anne Ellis for 8 to 13 year olds. The first concert in December 1986 is given at the Quaker Meeting House in Bournville.
